Our Techniques
Chiropractic
adjustments are used to correct structural imbalances. The
structural changes may be due to tense muscles, postural
deformities, and improper nerve function. The adjustment is a way to
move a joint and change the tone of muscles around that joint. The
change in muscular tone has a feedback loop to the rest of the
nervous system. At Smith Chiropractic Wellness Center we employ
several different chiropractic techniques to facilitate these
changes which include:
- Activator Methods (AMCT) – AMCT uses the Activator
Adjusting Instrument, a handheld spring-loaded instrument, to
give consistent low-force, high-speed chiropractic adjustments.
Because it’s many times faster than chiropractic adjustments
delivered by hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making
adjustments comfortable and effective. AMCT is one of the most
popular "low force" chiropractic techniques in the world.
- Active Release Therapy (ART) - ART is a soft tissue
system/movement based massage technique that treats problems
with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves that occur
from overuse of muscles. Every ART session is actually a
combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses
his or her hands to evaluate the problem area. The treatment is
then administered by having the patient complete specific
movements while the doctor applies precise, directed tension.
- Applied Kinesiology - Applied kinesiology (AK) is a
form of diagnosis using muscle testing to detect the presence of
disease, vitamin deficiency, and other problems which occur in
the body. The basis of applied kinesiology is that every problem
with an organ is accompanied by weakness in a corresponding
muscle. When properly applied, the outcome of an AK diagnosis
will determine the best form of therapy for the patient.
- Diversified – This technique focuses on correcting
misalignments in the spine which may be causing pain and/or
spasm and can cause interference to the nerves, which pass
through the spine. Relieving the nerve interference can improve
a broad range of health problems by improving the nervous
system's ability to communicate, regulate, and coordinate
healing of the body. The doctors will most likely use their
hands to deliver a precise and careful thrust to correct the
misalignments.
- Pediatrics - Many chiropractic techniques are gentle
enough to be used in the healthcare of babies and children. From
the stresses placed on a baby's neck by a difficult birth to the
many falls experienced by children learning to walk and play,
babies and children are vulnerable to many strains and injuries
which often don't reveal themselves to parents, yet, can affect
the child's health and growth. Chiropractic can gently help
guide the direction of growth and wellness from an early age.
Babies have been successfully treated for colic, as well as
digestive, feeding and sleeping difficulties.
- Toggle Recoil Technique – Resting comfortably on the
patient’s side, the chiropractor’s hands deliver an ultra-quick
thrust to the upper bones of the spine. Just as quickly, the
chiropractor’s hands are removed. This energy allows the
patient’s head and spinal structures to "reset" themselves. The
object is to allow the wisdom of the body to reposition spinal
segments with the least possible amount of force.
